Jhargram town, the headquarters of Jhargram district, is a commercial hub located nearly 170km from Kolkata in the south-western corner of West Bengal. The town is rich in Folk Culture, with a 
unique heritage of folk dances and songs developed around different beliefs, rituals, and social programs. Some of the main folk dances and songs of Jhargram are Bhuang Dance, Chang Dance, Chhou 
Dance, Pata Dance, Langrae Dance, Ronpa, Jhumur Song, Bhadu Song, Tusu song. There are a few key festivals in this area that are tied to its cultural heritage, such as Tusu Parab, Baha Parab, 
Karam Puja, Bhadu Utsav, and Badna Parab. What makes this place unique are the different festivals and folk dances that are closely related to daily life here.

Located at the edge of Jhargram town, is an eco-tourism centre and tribal museum which will acquaint you with the indigenous culture and lifestyle of the region.You can head to the Kanak Durga 
Temple, about 15km from Jhargram town. Although most people visit the forest for the ancient temple dedicated to goddess Durga, this sacred grove is said to be one of the key biodiversity zones 
of the country. According to reports, the grove contains over 300 species of plants, including medicinal plants and over 20 species of smaller animals. A forested path leads to the Dulung River.

Kendua Village, located just 10km from Jhargram town on the way to Kanak Durga temple, is a forested area home to many different types of birds - making it a perfect pit-stop for any bird enthusiasts! 
This village sees a local migration of birds during monsoon season, with open-billed storks being the most common species. These birds usually arrive in June to begin breeding and then fly away by 
November after their chicks have grown. If you're traveling with children, be sure to pay a visit to the mini zoo that's been set up in the former deer park near the town. And for those looking to 
go 'off the beaten path', Garh Shalboni is a secluded forested village retreat located between Jhargram and Lodhashuli Forest - definitely worth checking out! Stay at a homestay to explore the 
surrounding forest consisting of Sal, Teak, Mahua, and other trees. You may also visit Belpahari, Lodhashuli and Kankrajhore forests, all lying within easy driving distance. From Belpahari, you 
may explore Ghagra Waterfalls, Gadrashini hill, Tarafeni Dam, etc., all situated amidst forests.

With the hills of Belpahari and Kankrajhor in the north and the Subarnarekha river in the south, the district offers diverse natural attractions. Even driving from one destination to another can 
be a fun and unique experience as you pass through long, lonely stretches of forests.
